 Abbies Sport Shop invites you all to our customer appreciation and grand re-opening of our new bigger and better store on Saturday, March 13 from 11 am to 4 pm. Come and join us for snacks, games, giveaways, prizes, raffles and Vancouver Candadians. Our new location is at the corner of 32 Avenue and Main Street. 4774 Main Street 604-874-6910 www.abbiesports.com March 3rd, 2010 A letter of thanks to the customers of Abbies Sporting Goods on its 62nd birthday. At Abbies Sporting Goods, it’s the people who tell the story. It’s the Smythe Family now into their third generation of buying sporting equipment at Abbies. Its Gail, who I recently bumped into in a Main St restaurant who let me know that her husband had bought his 1st baseball glove from Abbies 40 years ago (and how much she wanted to see the new store). It’s Ken Digby who brought over photos of himself as a young man playing on an Abbies Sponsored soccer team. It’s the teenager who comes in asking about my wife who coached them 10 years ago at Little Mountain T-ball. It seems everywhere I go, people have a memory, a story to tell about Abbies Sporting Goods. I feel pround to part of theses memories and traditions. While preparing for he opening of the new location on 32nd ave and Main, I’ve had time for these reflections and gratitude for the longevity of the store in this community and the obvious palce in peoples hearts and histories. I’ve often marveled at how an independante family business could survive over 60 years. Indeed Abbies has outlasted Eatons (also opened in 1948) has just endured its third recession and even in these difficult times Abbies is growing, preparing for its grand re-opening at its new location 4774 Main St., Saturday March 6th. At Abbies, it is the people who tell the story and have let us know that its our personal service, knowledgeable expertise and involvement in their community and interest in their families. Its actually their community and families that has kept Abbies in business all this time. We are looking forward to continuing the tradtition for another 60 years.
