The seasonThe soccer season starts in September and runs until March of the following year with a break for Christmas (usually three weeks).Age categoriesUnder the rules set by the BC Soccer Association kids are registered based on their age as of December 31st. Age groupings are referred to as U8 or U15 meaning the players are Under 8 or Under 15.KLM has four main age groupings:TykesChildren under seven years of age. This age group does not play games, but instead gets together each Saturday to learn soccer drills. All play is outdoors. For more information, please see the TYKES PROGRAM page.MinisChildren Under 8 to Under 10. This age group generally practices once per week and has games every Saturday. A maximum of 12 players can be registered on each team.U11/U12These are transitional years for boys and girls. They play on special-sized fields with eight players on the field at one time and play a modified off-side rule. Practices are generally once a week. Boys play their games on Saturday and girls play on Sunday.DivisionalPlayers aged Under 13 to Under 18. This age group generally practices once per week and has games once each weekend. A maximum of 18 players can be registered on each team.PracticesOutdoor practices are arranged by team officials on local fields. As daylight hours decrease (usually around the beginning of October), practices will be scheduled on lit fields. Teams have one practice a week although some teams may practice twice a week. KLM has the use of two lit fields:Riley Park Community Centre: 50 East 30th Avenue Livingstone Elementary School: 315 East 23rd Avenue Evening practices are arranged so that younger teams practice earlier in the evening. Practices last from one to two hours depending on player age. Some teams, mostly the younger ones, may practice indoors during the winter months. GamesPlayers need to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to kick-off for warm-up and pre-game instructions. In general, games take anywhere from 1.5 to two hours when taking into consideration the warm-up, the game itself, half time and post-game time.TournamentsKLM encourages teams to participate in tournaments if they wish. The Club will cover the entrance fee for one tournament per year. If teams wish to participate in additional tournaments, they may be required to cover the entrance fee themselves.Uniforms and equipmentKLM colours are black, red and white. For Tykes, we provide each player with a uniform. For all other teams, we provide each player with a KLM jersey. For all other team levels, we provide each player with a jersey, shorts and socks. Uniforms are handed out by the manager prior to the first game of the season and MUST be returned at the end of the season. There is a one-time jersey deposit of $40 that may be reclaimed when the player leaves KLM and has returned the jersey to the team. If you would rather KLM keep the jersey deposit, we will gratefully accept the money.Players are required to provide the following equipment:
