Kensington Little Mountain Soccer Association (KLM) is a responsive community soccer club that has been providing affordable soccer participation to the youth in the KLM community for some 20 years as KLM and over 40 years through its two predecessor clubs. KLM was formed when two community clubs, Kensington Soccer and Little Mountain Soccer merged in 1987.

KLM’s roots date back some forty years, to the 1960’s. Before Little Mountain Soccer existed, Riley Park Soccer was the name of the club. The original colours were blue and yellow When Little Mountain was formed, Logo - 1987the new club colours were red and white. Kensington Soccer was formed in 1967, Canada’s Centennial year and the club colors were yellow and black. KLM was incorporation under the Society Act on March 12, 1997. The club is a not for profit organization that is run entirely by volunteers. Some of today’s volunteers, coaches and executive members have been with KLM since the merger and were also with Kensington Soccer and Little Mountain Soccer prior to the KLM merger. Before KLM was formed, Little Mountain Soccer, and Kensington Soccer ran soccer in the community from the mid sixties until the merger in 1987.

The KLM community has a diverse cultural population and children are encouraged to participate regardless of age, ability, ethnicity, gender, religion or the ability to pay. KLM provides an opportunity for children and youth to form soccer teams and compete with other clubs throughout the Lower Mainland through league games and various tournaments.  At the time of the merger between Little Mountain Soccer and Kensington Soccer, it was agreed to borrow the colors from the previous clubs and the club colors for KLM became red and black. When KLM was formed it was also agreed to keep the Little Mountain logo consisting of the mountain outline with the soccer ball at the base of the mountain encompassed in a circle. KLM continues to use this logo on letterhead for all club correspondence.

The Little Mountain logo has been in use for well over 20 years. As part of KLM’s 20 year anniversary it was decided to design a new crest for KLM.  After several meetings and countless designs, a new official design was presented and voted on at the 2007 Annual General Meeting. The new KLM crest was designed by one of KLM’s U17 boys.

In the 2007/2008 season KLM fielded approximately 40 girls and boys teams and served the needs of 530 children and youth in the community. The number of children registered has grown rapidly over the last 3 years, 2005/2006 - 262 kids, 2006/2007 – 369 kids, 2007/2008 – 530 kids.

This past season KLM”s successes included the U18 Lions boys team finishing tied for first place in their age group. The U14 Lynx girl’s were cup finalists in their age group and were unfortunate not to win the cup. Three boys teams the U18 Lions, U17 Porto and the U14 Hurricanes were in the 4D cup finals in their age group, with Porto and the Hurricanes ending up cup winners
