Our tykes program is designed to introduce youngsters to the fundamentals of soccer. If you have a child aged four to six years old, this could be the spot for you. Emphasis is on non-competitive practice and play. The program is designed for fun, fitness and sportsmanship while teaching basic soccer skills. The sessions take place for one hour every Saturday on the fields at Mt Pleasant Elementary School (East 8th and St George Street - between Main and Fraser just North of Broadway).Players are divided into groups based on gender, age level and/or skill level. The program starts in the middle of September and runs until the following March. There is usually a three to four week break in December (over the Christmas holidays). During the 2008-2009 season, the four and five year olds were broken into two groups with sessions from noon to 1 pm and 1 to 2 pm. The six-year-olds hit the pitch in two groups: one from 2 to 3 pm and one from 3 to 4 pm. We had enough girls to have their own group which got together on Sundays from 3 to 4 pm. The set up for 2009-2010 will depend on the number of players registered, so please register early. Players must provide their own shin guards and soccer cleats. They may wear pants or shorts. KLM will supply a jersey for each registrant. Once registered, you will be contacted in late August or early September to be advised of the start date of the program. Please see the REGISTRATION section on how to register your child and the costs of this program. |
