KLM offers a number of programs for young players and not so young players. The club fields teams at all ages for both boys and girls. The youngest players, the tykes, are between the ages of 4 and 6, the minis cover the 7 to 9 year olds (U8 to U10), 8 aside is played by 10 and 11 year olds (U11 & U12). The divisional players are aged 12 to 17 olds (U13 to U19). The club engages the services of professional coaches as necessary under the direction of KLM's Director of Coaching to provide players with soccer training cams and player development sessions. Over the last two years, KLM has sponsored two Senior Youth coaching clinics to help 32 of the club's coaches and mangers become certified Senior Youth Coaches. KLM has also conducted an introduction to coaching session for the Tykes and Mini Coaches. KLM will always support coaches and players in developing their skills at the playing, coaching and officiating level. Anyone associated with the club, who has the required pre-requisites, is encouraged to attend coaching and officiating clinics. KLM will fully reimburse participants who successfully complete a BCSA recognized coaching or referee clinic. KLM is also associated with mens' teams. The club has aligned itself with Allemenia to field winter and summer teams that includes a number of KLM graduates plus players from outside of KLM. The senior teams are self funded and do not receive any monies from the youth program. These teams do play in KLM colours. For the 2008/2009 season, KLM fielded a U21 men's team made up mostly of last year's U18 Lions. The addition of U21 teams will provide a bridge from youth soccer to men's soccer. |
